Petra Chnapekova-Simmons, M.A., Adjunct

Hello everyone,

Allow me to introduce myself. I am an adjunct instructor in the History Department at Spring Hill College, offering courses in World History, European Studies in particular. I teach Western Civilization 101 , usually given in Fall and as a consecutive course, I also continue to develop the material further into Western Civilization 102, taught in the Summer. I am a graduate of the University of South Alabama, where I have earned a Bachelors Degree in International Studies and Russian Language. I have also earned a Masters Degree in History with specialties in the contemporary world in Europe and the United States of America. Besides my fluent Russian, I also speak fluently in Czech and Slovakian Languages and I am conversational in German Language. By now, you are already noticing my foreign background.

I was born and raised in Czech Republic on the outskirts of its capital city of Prague. I have traveled extensively throughout the world learning diverse cultures and histories. I have placed my roots in Mobile, Alabama, where I have been the last 14 years, studying at the University of South Alabama, and later, teaching at Spring Hill College part time. I also hold a full-time job as an examiner for the Social Security Disability Office. I truly enjoy history as well as my full time profession of helping the citizens of Alabama.

I would like to encourage you to study and take a vital interest in history, as a subject as well as, perhaps, your profession, and utilize your knowledge from this college, wherever your life may take you. You will often find helpful what you have learned in many topics of conversation, travel, business, politics, education and many more.
